This is probably my favorite new painting right now that I've just finished. I'm very excited about the new techniques I'm using, and also using old family archival photographs in the work.

Ever since I started painting my great grandmother, I can feel her talking to me more and more. She had more to say. She had more to do. She had more influence to exert on the world. Just as she wore many costumes, she was many women: performer, writer, wife, mother, lover, fighter, champion of herself. I think she was ultimately smarter than her husband. I think her scrappiness had been underestimated.
